Preparing Your Needlepoint for Finishing
To ensure your needlepoint receives the highest level of care and achieves the most beautiful finished result, please review the following guidelines before submitting your project. We recommend stitching 2 extra rows around your project using the same color of thread as your edge stitching. This allows the full size of the stitched canvas to show on the front of your project and allows us to use the 2 extra rows to wrap the edges.
Blocking
Your needlepoint will be blocked when necessary to ensure the best possible shape and finish. One complimentary blocking is included for pieces that are visibly skewed.
If additional blocking is required to bring a project back to square, the additional work will be charged according to the Blocking Only pricing.
Please do not wash your needlepoint before submitting it for finishing. Washing can remove the natural starch from the canvas, making it more difficult to properly block and maintain the desired shape.
Canvas Allowance
Please leave a minimum of 1 inch of canvas or fabric surrounding the stitched area of your project. Whenever possible, 2 inches or more on each side is ideal.
Please do not cut down your canvas before submitting it for finishing, and avoid stitching all the way to the edge of the canvas or fabric.
Adequate canvas allowance is essential for properly blocking and finishing your piece. Projects with less than 1 inch of surrounding canvas may require additional blocking and may incur an additional blocking fee.
Packing & Shipping Your Canvas
To help ensure your needlepoint arrives safely and is ready for finishing, please follow these steps before shipping:
Remove your project from stretcher bars, frames, or hoops before packing.
Remove all accessories, including needles, threaders, pins, needle minders, and any other loose items.
Do not wash your needlepoint before submitting it
Place each project and its completed Finishing Form together in a separate resealable plastic bag. This helps keep individual projects organized and provides added protection from possible moisture or water damage during transit.
Larger canvases may be gently rolled or folded for shipping. Rolling is recommended when practical.
We strongly recommend shipping your needlepoint using UPS or FedEx with tracking and insurance. Please insure your package for the appropriate replacement value and retain your tracking information until your package has been received by Heirloom Needlepoint Finishing.
Heirloom Needlepoint Finishing is not responsible for packages that are lost, damaged, or delayed while in the possession of the shipping carrier.
